Power Tools for Workflow Version 2.2
GCI Power Tools for Workflow (PTW) is a collection of advanced
tools for enhancing the capabilities of the OpenText Content
Server Workflow module. GCI Power Tools for Workflow feature
complete control by the workflow map designer over what is
displayed to the step performer at regular ‘User’
steps. For example, for a workflow with three forms, a number
of attributes, some comments and attachments, GCI Power Tools
for Workflow allow the map painter to specify how this data
should be displayed. The map designer can create a custom
display form, called "CustomViews", to display all
the data on one page, multiple pages, or in multiple windows.
This display is built from reusable components, so the map
designer doesn’t have to completely redo everything
when they want to make a change to some part of the display.
All of the ‘Send On’, ‘Review’, and
‘Delegate’ functionality comes from the same page
as all the workflow data. An additional benefit is that, when
there is a large amount of data, the display of the data is
much faster. PTW also does incremental updates of the data
so that by the time the user is finished filling out the form,
most of the data will already have been saved.
Additional Power Tools for Workflow features
include:
- More control over creating versions using the Item Handler
step
- A way to reference items created by the copy function
of the Item Handler step for use in other Item Handler
steps
- A new tab for the Item Handler that allows the workflow
to call the standard functions on any item in Livelink;
i.e. – delete, reserve, un-reserve, and rename
- The ability to initiate workflows from any item type
and specify what should be done with the item. Copy it
to the attachments folder, or keep a reference to it, in
conjunction with fetching category data from the item and
storing it in workflow data fields
- GCI Power Tools for Workflow Extensions v.1.0.0:
- Modify data contained in the workflow such as attribute values, form field values, and comment strings
- Push data out under category>operations> apply to sub-items
- Set the description of a Livelink node
March 2, 2010: we are pleased to announce the release of GCI Power Tools for Workflow 2.2.0, GCI Power Tools Agent 1.2.0, and GCI Utils 1.3.0. The release of these modules includes a rollup of 15 patches that address various bugs, performance issues, and compatibility resolutions. There is also a rollup of the features that were previously only available in a separate module. These features are:
- Support for accessing and manipulating workflow data via XSL customview files. This capability exists today for user steps but is now extended as a separate feature
- Support for updating the category values of all items in a container. This feature extends the functionality of the Item Handler step
- Support for setting the description of any node in The Open Text Content Server
- Support for using an Item Reference in a Form as an option for the move/copy action of an Item Handler step
